Pupil's Learning

At MOM children benefit from meaningful and stimulating activities which allow different skills and knowledge to be taught and enjoyed in the same lesson. Small classes facilitate personalised learning for our children, and promote a loving, caring envi ronment. We provide a very high quality of care for each pupil, with plenty of opportunity for one on one learning with the teacher. No child is lost in the crowd. Children’s confidence and self-esteem are devel oped through verbal and written encouragement. We expect everyone to work hard and do their best and therefore every achievement is valued and celebrated, whether academic or otherwise. We offer additional opportunities to extend the natural gifts, abilities and interests of every child through specialised school activity clubs run by qualified teaching staff. Each year we have Perfor mance Showcases’ which give children the oppor tunity to show their parents some of the highlights from their term’s work. These Showcases not only instill confidence in the children, but they also integrate parents into the school community. MOM promotes values of behavior and commu nity that have stood the test of time, enabling us to establish a loving, family atmosphere within the school.

We believe that education is not only about academic progress, but is also concerned with a child’s spiritual, social and emotional development.

Future Scientists

Science stimulates and excites pupils’ curiosity about phenomena and events in the world around them. It also satisfies this curiosity with knowledge. At MOM we aim to teach the children scientific knowledge and scientific inquiry skills in a creative and fun way. We want children to be enthusiastic about science, to think creatively and independently, and to encourage open mindedness and sensitivity to the world around them. T he science lesson at MOM is planned effectively with a key focus on developing and improving scientific inquiry skills. We also have a wide range of additional resources and scientific equipment available to create fun and engaging lessons for the children; and we organise exciting trips to stimulate pupil’s enjoyment and enthusiasm for the subject

Why are MOM kids so fluent in English

English is at the heart of our learning at MOM. We offer an engaging and balanced education, developing children’s confidence and abilities in Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing. Pupils have an English lesson each morning, with activities planned according to individual needs and children read with a teacher each week in Guided Reading sessions. We have a high teacher – child ratio at MOM so we can teach in smaller groups. We also have an excellent support team, providing personalised teaching and learning for pupils of all needs. Children have the opportunity to write at length in The Big Write and from Monday to Thursday each day ends with story time.

One of our pupils being awarded by the District Commissioner (D C) for being the best essay writer in the District.

Mathematics is not a problem

At MOM we teach Mathematics so that all chil dren will:

• Enjoy the subject and have a positive attitude towards it.

• Achieve a high standard in Mathematics, equipping them with skills for life.

• Handle numbers with confidence, using mental and written methods • Acquire the Mathematical skills and techniques needed to solve real-life problems.

• Use and appreciate the power of pattern and relationships to further their progress in Mathematics.

• Develop increasing confidence and ability to investigate chal lenging questions.

We achieve this by:

Teachers continually planning and assessing using inter active and visually stimulating programs.

Creating smaller classes to ensure children get more
‘teacher time’.

Supporting pupils with specific one to one/very small
group teaching in addition to daily Maths lessons.

This may be to challenge most able Mathematicians or to close the gap for children who have struggled.

Teachers nurturing and pushing pupils to achieve the best they possibly can with parent/career support.

Information & Communication Technology (ICT)

ICT, which stands for Information and Communication Technology, is taught from grade four to seven at MOM. In ICT, children develop the skills and knowledge safely to use technology to:

Find things out. (e.g. researching on the Internet)

• Develop ideas (e.g. word processing, and creating images)

• Exchange and share information. (e.g. make a presentation)

Children develop core skills to use technology, an example being learning how to use a keyboard and mouse efficiently.
